Mitch McConnell, losing.
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN)
called "bullshit" on his "leader" Mitch McConnell in a meeting Wednesday, when McConnelll tried to reassert his dominance in the caucus and said that he would have secured a much better filibuster deal.
Corker, and a number of the rank-and-file Republicans, are still calling bullshit on McConnell by finally voting for cloture for President Obama's nominee. On the cloture vote for Richard Cordray at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 17 of them abandoned McConnell. On the most controversial cloture vote for Thomas Perez, six of them joined Democrats. And finally, for Gina McCarthy at the Environmental Protection Agency, 16 Republicans basically gave McConnell the finger. Along with Corker, McConnell lost Susan Collins (R-ME), Mark Kirk (R-IL), John McCain (R-AZ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) on every vote. To boot, hardliners like Roy Blunt (R-MO), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Johnny Isackson (R-GA), and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) broke ranks with McConnell, some of the twice.
Now that McConnell has started to lose his grip on his caucus, he might want to think about trying a little bit harder to not piss them off. After all, there's still a lot of obstructing he's going to be wanting to do in the next year and a half and the splinters seem to be growing.
