I wrote these lyrics back in 2006 and promptly forgot about them. I was going through some papers and rediscovered the song. The inspiration of course was the Bush administration's policies and behavior. It is interesting that, in my opinion, the lyrics are just as relevant today. Certainly, if a Republican wins the presidency again, the "bad ol days" will be here again. That is a possibility despite what the pundits might think because the Republican strategy is to deny the right to vote to Democrats, which they can do at the state level. I know many folks are not completely happy with the Obama administration, but it could be a whole lot worse.
Battle Hymn of the Republicans
Our eyes have seen the glory of the gouging of the land.
As we robbed the common people we have watched our wealth expand.
From banks to drugs to oil and gas we charge more than you can stand,
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah. Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
Our economic policies bring the country to its knees.
Our energy price gouging puts the public in a squeeze.
We spent all of the tax money and borrowed more from the Chinese.
And you have to pay it back.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
The Greedy Oil-based Party has proven Mr. Lincoln wrong.
We have fooled all of the people and it didn’t take that long.
We have sold the countries assets to our cronies for a song.
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
We’ll put an end to Medicare and take FDR off of the dime.
And cut all other benefits to you at the same time.
We’ll “reform” the justice system so bribing us is not a crime.
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies we will dump our toxic waste.
We will build a “nuclar” power plant in reckless, careless haste.
As you die to make us wealthy let us live rich and in bad taste.
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
We are trampling civil liberties and poking through your house.
Not to mention we reserve the right to help you choose your spouse.
And to top it all we placed a bug in your computer mouse.
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
The Dems will claim class warfare but once all the spin is spun.
We will counter with gay marriage and the right to own your gun.
In fact the war is over and the truth is that we won.
Our wealth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
We’ll demand a special afterlife and to keep our portfolio.
We’ll live in a gated heaven burb or we’ll refuse to go.
Wherever all us rich end up is the place to be you know.
And we’ll keep our money, too.
Glory! Glory! To the greedy. Glory! Glory! Yes, indeedy.
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our net worth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Did we fool you?
Glory! Glory! How we fooled you. Our wealth is marching on.
