Received this e-mail from the Democratic Governors Association regarding gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli (R. VA):
If you’re gay, you have no place in Virginia. That’s basically what Republican Ken Cuccinelli said this weekend in the first Virginia gubernatorial debate.
When moderator Judy Woodruff asked Cuccinelli if he stands by his statement that being gay is “against nature” and “harmful to society,” Cuccinelli doubled down on those offensive remarks and called homosexuality a “personal challenge.”
We’ve achieved so much in the past year when it comes to equal rights for LGBT citizens, most recently with the defeat of the Defense of Marriage Act. It would be a shame to move back several decades with the election of an anti-gay zealot as governor of a key swing state.
When we let a public official of Cuccinelli’s stature get away with hateful comments like those, it sends a signal to the rest of the country that anti-gay discrimination is acceptable.
Tell Ken Cuccinelli: your outrageous anti-gay remarks have no place in a governor's mansion:

Every day, brave men and women are coming out to their friends and family and telling them: “this is who I am.” What Ken Cuccinelli is saying when he calls homosexuality a “personal challenge” is that it's not acceptable to be who you are if you're gay – that some citizens are somehow less than equal to others solely because of their sexual orientation.
As Attorney General, Cuccinelli even wrote a letter to Virginia colleges and universities prohibiting them from banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Didn’t think any statewide elected official in the 21st century United States could possibly be against banning discrimination? Well Cuccinelli is, and he’s within the margin of error in recent polls.
Tell Ken Cuccinelli that it’s not OK to discriminate against people based on their sexuality:

The national headlines on gay rights have been almost entirely positive in recent months – but if Virginians elect Ken Cuccinelli governor this November, that could change in an instant.
Thanks for adding your voice to this important issue.
Sincerely,
Danny Kanner
