Supporters of one of two state legislators
under attack in the NRA's recall effort in Colorado say there are some mighty suspicious signatures on the recall petitions that the NRA's paid signature collectors amassed. State Sen. John Morse supporters are
calling for a criminal investigation into the signature collection.
Christy LeLait of the group A Whole Lot of People for John Morse says five petition gatherers hired by Kennedy Enterprises cheated. [...]
She gave a copy of the sheets in question to a member of the DA's office along with an affidavit claiming at least 28 names were forged.
One such name, Twila Peach, actually died two years ago. Her husband Ken says Twila was known by her middle name Sue, and he says she always signed her name Twila Sue.
"It upsets me that somebody would try to use her name for political gain," he said.
Another name is signed Allen Davidson, when the actual homeowner at the listed address named Alan Davidson.
"The least they could do is spell my name right," Davidson said. "That's sheer stupidity right there."
LeLait believes there more forgeries, enough to invalidate the recall.
In case you've forgotten, go back and read Markos' post about the recall, and the group the NRA teamed up with to collect these signatures, Basic Freedom Defense Fund. "Sleazy" is much too benign an adjective for some of the stuff these people have said and done. That includes a paid signature gatherer identified as Nickolas Robinson, who collected 19 of the 28 questionable names LeLait highlighted. According to the landlord at the address Robinson used on his recall petition, there's no one named that living there.
That's what we're up against in this fight—the NRA, their money, and their total lack of scruples. But we can beat them at the ballot box. We already did once with Robin Kelly in Illinois, and we can do it now, by helping John Morse and Angela Giron keep their seats.
Please give $3 to each of the two Democrats targeted by this NRA-fueled recall.
