By now, many of us have heard of the Gilberton, PA Police Chief Kessler and his shoot-em-up right wing rants of hatred against liberals and Dems.
This piece describes him as a one man police force of a tiny borough of 800 residents.
He claims he is pro gun and is totally within his First and Second Amendment rights. He claims that people are trying to make a “mountain out of a molehill”.
The guns in the video are his, and he donated them to the police department.
At one point, he fires a weapon and screams, "come and get it!" after he criticizes Secretary of State John Kerry for signing a United Nations treaty that requires ratifying countries to begin controlling arms brokers, but does not control the domestic use of weapons in any country.
The problem is: THIS IS THE ONLY REFERENCE TO WHAT HE SAYS IN THE VIDEOS!
The MSM seems to be intentionally omitting his hatred of liberals and Dems and anyone in his constituency with which he does not agree. It also fails to mention his history of violence and his injuring his own hand with his gun in a bar.
But what of his boss, the esteemed Mayor Hanlon, and her reactions?
Gilberton Mayor Mary Lou Hannon said Wednesday that she found the language offensive and understood that many others did, too.
"They're like watching an R-rated movie," Hannon told The Associated Press. "The profanity and violence in it was a little upsetting."
She said she supports his continued employment and said he has made a lot of residents feel safe and responds to emergencies at all hours.
"If you were in trouble and you needed somebody to protect you, Mark would be the person you would want running to your aid," Hannon said. "My experience and that of many of our residents (is) he will die for you. He's loyal and I think that's important."
Other than a couple of First and Second Amendment references, here is the only other mention of this asshole’s politics:
In January, Kessler drafted a resolution the borough adopted that calls for "nullifying all federal, state or local acts in violation of the Second Amendment." He boasted about the resolution while speaking at a February gun-rights rally on the steps of the Pennsylvania Capitol.
"If they come in and try to disarm any of my citizens it's not going to go over very well," he told the crowd.
Meanwhile, there is plenty of precedent for the limits of free speech when it comes to police that have to serve their communities. Justice Sotomayor (before joining SCOTUS) ruled on such a suit, actually taking the side of a terminated NYPD officer who mailed out hate literature. However, her basis for taking his side was that he was a back office guy not involved with the public, and he was doing his hating anonymously.
Police Chief Kessler has no claim to free speech when he hates his own community in which he works, IMO.
So, yes, the MSM is indeed covering this. However, it is apparently all about HIS rights, with no mention of his threats against libs and Dems that he made in his videos.
The MSM is truly pathetic and predictable…and oh so liberal, right?
