Starting to think the stand your ground is actually a new reincarnation of old common law duels...
I know that not all duels were legal but wondering where the notion of a "fair fight" the kind you saw in the old west movies came from where the men as long as it was fair could murder each other in the street as long as it was high noon and public. If GZ can force a confrontation that ends with a killing of a child and it was deemed legal because he feared for his life could this not be a bastardized version of dueling? In dueling the man that won the fight was seen as the moral victor ,he was in essence the innocent party .Just a thought . any history buffs have any insight?
