A year in FL now. 29th anniversary with Mrs Millrat yesterday. Still don't own the the home we live in, but still plugging away at the goal. Here is a brief snapshot of life in this crazy place..... Read on

Ford van that got us here still going strong after 5 trips now back and forth to NY.
New Ford van is a 1988 Ford Aerostar that still has some issues after a month long rehab.

Deputies in Velusia Cty I believe opened fire on an unarmed 60 year old for daring to reach into his mothers car for a cigarette in his own driveway.

Deputy in Brevard Cty, resigns after 13 years on the force for posting and receiving porn pictures while on duty, after turning her GPS off.

Mrs Millrat and I walked the beach last evening, and came across hundreds of sea turtle shells from their run back to the ocean, we saw Manatees when crossing the Indian River.

We have a semi tame raccoon residing, Sand Hill Cranes drop by every few days as well.

As ugly as people can be here, there is Beauty  and wonder. The nightly onslaught of the fleet of dragonflies, to the sparrow sized mosquitoes, and the various frogs are amazing.

I bid you goodnight from Jurassic park.

Keep making things,

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

My wife and I served in the Cold War. It seems our efforts were fruitless. We have a new enemy, and if not, we will create a new one.

There is beauty here and the ugly has really nearly ruined it.   So ...we have to fight for the beauty.  Happy anniversary.

Send some of the mosquito hawks (dragonflies) my way, as the mosquito spraying from county helicopters is more effective at killing dragonflies than mosquitoes.

In my neck of the woods, the developers are back on the attack again, seeking to destroy my own now semi-rural (what used to be rural) neck of the woods.  Latest proposal is to turn a 5,000 acre untouched ranch into a mega development of 7,600 plus homes, plus lots of commercial, and another developer is intent on buying a citrus grove and building another 5,000 homes and more commercial.

It isn't enough that we are still buried in a foreclosure glut.  People are getting "insuranced" out of their homes.  I would love to send you a response I received today from the State about consumer protections on homeowners insurance (there are none).  If you have farm animals on your rural property it is sufficient for an insurance company to cancel you.

Don't even get me going about the death of the Everglades, the death of estuaries, and a polluted Lake Okeechobee that is being used as a reservoir with failing dikes.

On the other hand, the residents here are just awesome.  We know how to help those in need, how to offer a tribute to a community resident who died, and can even offer tips on how to get the water pump from turning on and off repeatedly; donate school supplies for those less fortunate here at home, and

    this and so much more...
