So it's my turn at an AMA. For those that don't know, I'm the General Manager of Daily Kos and I mainly focus on the revenue and operational side of the business. I work closely with Chris Bowers and the activism team since our email list and activism efforts have become the primary revenue drivers for the site. I also love to look at site metrics and track user behavior and patterns. I wish I had more time to devote to that, but now we have others on staff who are doing an even better job at it.
How Daily Kos makes money and where it spends it is probably a great mystery to most readers. We want to change that because it makes sense from a business perspective and sometimes it just feels good to share our challenges and successes with those that make our jobs possible. Fortunately, we've had a lot of success in 2013, but let me tell you 2012 kinda sucked. That may seem counter-intuitive, but I'm starting to think we're seeing a pattern. Anyway, feel free to ask me anything.
