Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
LamontCranston and I represented DKos Asheville this past Monday in Raleigh; and it was once again a wonderful experience. As the legislative session had ended, and this one thus being the last of the weekly protests there at the General Assembly building, this time instead of civil disobedience, and the resulting arrests at the end of the protests, there was a march following about an hour of speakers. The march, several thousands strong, wound through some downtown streets to where another stage had been setup, and the crowd gathered to hear Reverend Barber give another inspirational speech. It was just a great afternoon.
Now it's our turn. Mountain Moral Monday is in two days. If you don't know yet, it's at Pack Square Park, from 5:00 to 6:30. Adding their voices will be singers David LaMotte, Kat Williams, Peggy Ratuz, and Rockell Scott.
And we are fortunate to have Reverend Barber with us as well. Over 2,000 people have already RSVP'd on facebook. If you're on facebook, add your name, and spread the word.
Parking information can be found here. And the full list of speakers and singers is here.
I think Randall will be chiming in with a plan for those of you who would like to meetup for this event. I'm thinking we're going to want to get there early.
Wear your DKos Asheville t-shirts or your Moral Monday t-shirts. If you're into signs, this is the time to bring 'em. Oh, and cameras are a good idea too. It looks like the weather on Monday is going to be great; so you might want to bring a sun hat. And water. And extra water.
Enjoy your Saturday; and I hope to see you on Monday!
Hi DKos Ashevillians! Ok, what David said. The event starts at 5:00 pm and we would love to be near the front, so a 4:00 pm meet up would be ideal. David has suggested a couple of places to meet including in front of Mast General Store on Biltmore Ave downtown. I had mentioned in a previous post that an ideal place would be next to the armed forces tribute sculpture just stage right in the park near the sidewalk. That way we would already be close. I have a photo shoot this morning so I may be late to the discussion but I'll catch up and see what ya got.
Hoping your morning is lovely, talk later, see you Monday!
