This is largely an 'empty' bucket but there is some content below the whorl.
The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group, a place where everyone is welcome to note the observations you have made of the natural world around you. Insects, weather, fish, climate, birds and/or plants: all are worthy additions to the bucket. Ask questions if you have them and someone here may well have an answer.
A couple of days ago, in Milly's Yellowstone diary someone commented that Yellowstone was on their Bucket List. At the time I was struck by the juxtaposition of 'The Daily Bucket' and 'Bucket List'. After all bucket isn't a word that comes up in conversation all that frequently.
So I started this diary with the idea of asking people what would be on their natural history bucket list. And while that is a fun thing to contemplate, something else came to mind. What is something that got added to your bucket list only after you experienced it? Something that you wouldn't have thought about beforehand but after the experience was something really meaningful?
A recent example for me, which I diaried here, was my observation of the insect life associated with fungi on a rotting tree in our yard. The miniature ecosystem was fascinating and really made my day for several days in a row. I couldn't wait to see what happened next.
Visiting a pitcher plant bog for the first time a few years ago would be a similar experience. I knew about pitcher plants, thought they were cool in a vague way but hadn't really given them much consideration. The strangeness of the landscape blew me away. See this diary from three years ago.
Today's observations: Tallahassee, FL. Standard hot humid weather. Saw a Mississippi Kite while driving in this AM. Someone brought me a nice Rhinoceros beetle and a Big Longhorn Beetle.
What's up in your neck of the woods?
"Green Diary Rescue" is Back!
After a hiatus of over 1 1/2 years, Meteor Blades has revived his excellent series. As MB explained, this weekly diary is a "round-up with excerpts and links... of the hard work so many Kossacks put into bringing matters of environmental concern to the community... I'll be starting out with some commentary of my own on an issue related to the environment, a word I take in its broadest meaning."
"Green Diary Rescue" will be posted every Saturday at 1:00 pm Pacific Time on the Daily Kos front page. Be sure to recommend and comment in the diary.
