DK Quilt Guild: A place for quilters to gather, share ideas, projects, and to make the world a better place, one quilt at a time. Join us and share your thoughts, projects, questions, and tips. Quilters here are at many different levels of skill. Beginners and non-quilters are welcome, too!
Pat and Arlan Christ
Quilt Odyssey took place at the end of July. As part of the event, there was a display of quilts from the Christ Quilt Collection. When I saw pictures of the display, I wanted to know more.
Arlan and Pat Christ live in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Arlan is a tax accountant with his office located in Kutztown, PA. When Pat is not working for Arlan, she can be found in her sewing studio or tending their country gardens. They enjoy traveling to quilt shows and museums which provide the opportunity to examine quilts. Retrieving knowledge to secure the heritage of antique quilts has become the prime objective of The Christ Collection.
I still wanted to know more. Pat and Arlan’s words when a selection of their quilts were displayed at the
Quilters Hall of Fame
The quilts chosen for this particular exhibit have not been exhibited before and will showcase the glorious colors of the Pennsylvania Germans in the late 1800’s. Their love of color is exhibited in the bright, bold and sometimes unusual choice of fabric.
“Glorious color.” That’s what I saw in the slide show, and what pulled me in.

Of course, the applique isn't bad, either. And quilt police, take note: look at all that yellow!
The only source of pictures of the quilts that were displayed at Quilt Odyssey that I've been able to find were posted by Bonnie Hunter. These quilts are from the 1920s-1940s. Click the link and enjoy. Vintage Love in Hershey
If you'd like to see some of the quilts from the quilt show, Karen Kay Buckley has 2 blog posts about them. Quilt Odyssey. More from Quilt Odyssey.
Which quilt do you like best?
And as always, share with us what you've been working on.
