Received this e-mail today from Senator Mark Udall (D. CO) regarding Social Security:
Keeping promises to our seniors is serious business.
Yesterday marked 78 years since President Roosevelt signed Social Security into law, ushering in a new era in our history that has allowed seniors to work towards their earned benefits and retire with dignity. Since then, the program has helped millions of older Americans make ends meet, lifted millions out of poverty, and strengthened our economy.
But despite Social Security’s long record of success, some in Washington think we should privatize the program — and turn over the “security” of Social Security to the whims of Wall Street. That’s wrong.
So, I’m joining Sen. Sherrod Brown, Sen. Kay Hagan, Sen. Jeff Merkley, and Rep. Gary Peters to make sure Social Security is around for another 78 years. Will you sign on and join us?

Last year, 88 percent of Colorado seniors received Social Security — that’s over half a million folks depending on it for their economic security.
We cannot afford to privatize Social Security and put seniors’ retirement into risky private accounts. Social Security is a guarantee that when you work hard and play by the rules all your life, you will have a secure retirement.
We must protect Social Security so it will continue to help our country’s seniors and keep them out of poverty.
