This week in 1935, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Social Security into law. And with his signature came a promise: Americans can retire with dignity.
Unfortunately, my opponent's view of the program is a little more cynical than mine. He's argued that programs like Social Security and Medicare were created by "bad politicians" to "make people dependent on government."
I believe that these programs are successful and important for the middle class; Ken Cuccinelli thinks it's "healthy" for states like Virginia to consider rejecting these sorts of commonsense programs.
