The Jewish holidays are almost upon us, and we are looking for volunteers not only to write diaries for the weekly Torah and/or Haftarah readings, but also diaries for each of the Jewish holidays. Here is a schedule, so please volunteer. You don't have to be a rabbinical scholar (none of us are), in fact, you don't even have to be Jewish.
Shabbat Aug. 23/24: Ki Tavo. Torah reading Deuteronomy chapter 26 through 29:8. Haftarah reading Isaiah 60: 1-22
Shabbat Aug. 30/31: Nitsavim + Vayelekh. Deuteronomy 29:9 through end of chapter 31. Haftarah reading Isaiah 61:10 to 63:9.
Rosh Hashanah - Jewish New Year. Wednesday evening September 4 through afternoon of Friday September 6.
Shabbat Shuvah (Shabbat of Repentance [or Return]). Sept. 6/7. Deuteronomy chapter 32. Haftarah reading Hosea 14: 2-10, Joel 2: 15-27, Micah 7:18-20.
Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement (coinciding this year with Shabbat) September 13/14.
Sukkot Wednesday evening September 18 through to end of Shabbat.
Shemini Atzeret and Simhat Torah (8th day of assembly and rejoicing with the Torah)
Wednesday evening September 25 to Friday September 27. On Simhat Torah we conclude the Torah, Deuteronomy 33:1 to end of Deuteronomy.
Shabbat Bereshit (In the Beginning ...) September 27/28. Torah reading Genesis 1:1 to 6:8. Haftarah reading Isaiah 42: 5 to 43: 10.
