If you follow This link to the White House, it will take you to the following petition:

We petition the Obama administration to:

Award the Presidential Citizens Medal to Antoinette Tuff of Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Atlanta, GA

On August 20, 2013, Antoinette Tuff calmly and bravely talked down a gunman who had made his way into the halls of Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, a Pre-K through 5th grade school. There is no way to know how many lives Ms. Tuff saved, but it is certain that she heroically averted what could have become another awful tragedy brought upon our nation's children by gun violence.

For this administration to continue its stand against gun violence, it must not only fight for gun control, but also honor its citizens who have found themselves in danger and stood resolute to protect our citizens, our children. Please, recognize Antoinette Tuff for the heroic citizen that she is, and allow her strength of character to stand as example for all the people of this nation. Thank you

This historic event has the potential to rearrange the board.  This woman single-handedly drove a stake through the heart of Wayne LaPierre's nonsensical claim "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."   She did it by staying calm, cool, collected and compassionate.  Unlike Wayne LaPierre, she didn't treat the guy like a thing.  And that made all the difference.

As most true heroes, Antoinette eschews the credit for her heroic actions.  She gives the glory to God, but even she would admit it was her TRAINING in non-violent communications that guided her through this treacherous pass.  Her training, more than any countless hours at a gun range, kept those kids safe.   She is a finger pointing the way out of darkness.

Signing this petition and telling everyone we know to do the same is the best way to shine a bright light on this woman, her deeds, and a powerful alternative to the narrative of fear and violence that has gripped this nation.

Really?  I have to sell this proposition?  What else do I need to say besides: Go to The White House Web Site and sign the petition!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
