Apologies: my schedule was changed and I'm at work tonight: will read and respond to comments as soon as I get home.
But instead of skipping the diary and doing it on Tuesday instead, I thought I'd share this gem of a YouTube with you.
It's a compilation of Inside the Actors Studio interviews, wherein the actors give their best advice about acting, and acting powerfully. Some is for stage, some is for film, but there are overlaps: the emphasis on listening, really listening, for example.
Authenticity is another common theme.
The clips are below the fleur-de-kos:
If you watch -- and I guarantee these clips are well worth your time if you are at all interested in acting/stagecraft/film -- there are two names not everyone might recognize.
When the actors mention Stella, they mean the legendary Stella Adler. When they say Lee, it's Lee Strasberg.
For Strasberg:
Lee Strasberg (born Israel Strassberg; November 17, 1901 – February 17, 1982) was an American actor, director and acting teacher.[1] He cofounded, with directors Harold Clurman and Cheryl Crawford, the Group Theatre in 1931, which was hailed as "America's first true theatrical collective".[2] In 1951, he became director of the non-profit Actors Studio, in New York City, considered "the nation's most prestigious acting school".[3

For Adler:
Stella Adler (February 10, 1901[1] – December 21, 1992) was an American actress and an acclaimed acting teacher,[2] who founded the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City (1949) and the The Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles (1985) with long-time protégé Joanne Linville, who continues to teach and furthers Adler's legacy.[3][4] Her grandson Tom Oppenheim now runs the school in New York,[2] which produced alumni including Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, and Jenny Lumet,[5] daughter of Sidney Lumet.[6]
