It looks like the U.S. and its allies are about to enter yet another war in the middle east.
According to the NBC News:
The U.S. could hit Syria with three days of missile strikes, perhaps beginning Thursday, in an attack meant more to send a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad than to topple him or cripple his military, senior U.S. officials told NBC News on Tuesday.
The State Department fed the growing drumbeat around the world for a military response to Syria's suspected use of chemical weapons against rebels Aug. 21 near Damascus, saying that while the U.S. intelligence community would release a formal assessment within the week, it was already "crystal clear" that Assad's government was responsible.
It is deja vu all over again. Ten years ago, we were told that Saddam Hussein's Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and was an imminent threat to the U.S. Few politicians dared to speak out against the war. Vast majority of the citizens in this country were brainwashed by the MSM into support this illegal and illogical war. As a result, hundreds of thousands of lives were loss and ruined and trillions of dollars wasted, and the U.S. became broke.
Now we are being told that the Assad regime used chemical weapons to murder its own people. This sounds like a remake of the Iraq war, except the change of the main characters:
George W. Bush replayed by Barack Obama
Colin Powell replayed by John Kerry
Donald Rumsfeld replayed by Chuck Hagel
Saddam Hussein replayed by Bashar Al-Assad
Ahmed Chalabi replayed by George Sabra
An opinion piece from Xinhua, China's official news agency, argues:
Yet as the UN probe is still going on, Washington and some other Western countries have seemingly reached their own conclusion. They claim to have solid proof that the Syrian government used chemical weapons.
Meanwhile, they describe Damascus' green light for the UN probe, which came Sunday, as being too late, arguing that continued shelling has destroyed the evidence.
Such rhetoric, as well as the recent flurry of consultations between Washington and its allies, indicates that they have put the arrow on the bowstring and would shoot even without a UN mandate.
That would be irresponsible and dangerous. For starters, the current scenario is reminiscent of the lead-up to the Iraq War, which the United States staged with allegations about weapons of mass destruction that later turned out to be false.
......
It is imperative that the Unites States and like-minded countries refrain from hasty armed invention and let the UN play its due part in determining how to act accordingly
It is a sad fact that one has to turn to countries such as China to find a saner voice. Have we ever learned?
