Playing video poker during a critical U.S. Senate hearing about going to war doesn't exactly add to the standing or credibility of any senator--particularly when it's Senator John McCain (R-Arizona)--arugably the biggest war hawk in Washington and without a doubt the staunchest proponent of striking Syria for allegedly using chemical weapons on its own people.
While the likes of Secretary of State John Kerry, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey were testifying concerning the use of force in Syria, McCain was apparently more interested in playing video poker on his iPhone than in what they were saying. WTF?!
That's a terrible signal to send to our potential enemies, but it's an even worse signal to send to our men and women in uniform who might be getting sent into harm's way as a result of this hearing. McCain's disdainful actions totally disrespected them and their families, as well as the people suffering in Syria.
I'm not surprised though, McCain is the same tool who callously sang, "Bomb, bomb, bomb...bomb, bomb Iran." You'd think a military veteran who some consider a war hero would take matters such as this more seriously.
McCain tried to blow off getting caught playing poker during the hearing by tweeting this on September 3 at 6:29 p.m.:
Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - worst of all I lost!
Hardee har har. Shame on McCain for once again showing how unseriously he takes going to war with other people's kids. That's conduct very unbecoming of a former military officer and someone who is seemingly always trying to push the United States into a war.
And now, McCain is saying he's not in favor of the Senate resolution because it puts a 90-day limit on action and says no American troops can be sent into Syria. I'm surprised he was able to tear himself away from his poker game long enough to even know what the resolution says.
What a tool.
