When a dozen workers that attempted to organize their fellow workers Wal Mart retaliated illegally by firing them. And then claiming it was an attendance issue. Wal Mart had until September first to reinstate those employees but decided they prefer poor unhappy workers.
The other demands are a base pay of 25,000 a year and access to benifits. The Union organizers also point out WalMart gets huge government subsidies by not paying a living wage or providing reasonable access to health insurance.
Cities where Walmart employees are slated to strike on Thursday include Baton Rouge, La., Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Orlando, Fla., Sacramento, Calif., San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
Wal Mart has been successful in destroying entire communities as they under cut local stores until they close their doors. And then they raise their prices on those items. They deny workers in hot warehouses breaks or access to clean cool water. They lock night time cleaning crews inside the building with no chance to escape if there is an emergency.
They lie to employees about their rights to form a union and spy on employees as to prevent union formation. This is while also teaching employees how to apply for food stamps because they are aware they pay wages well below the poverty level.
Wal Mart is the antithesis of good business practices as they force their vendors to reduce either the size or quality of their product to maintain a ridiculously low pay point.
Huzzah! To these striking workers that are no longer going to accept corporate abuse.
