After but a single day I'm back at the con, telling myself it's only 2 more episodes, honest.
Just as well I suppose because I get to bend your eyeballs a moment about the final, final episode of Futurama.
I hope it isn't so, I never felt Comedy Central did the show justice because, let's face it, other than The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, the network is nothing but an endless parade of prat falls and fart jokes that I ceased to find amusing midway through kindergarten.
Brain child of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, it started out on Fox as a companion to The Simpsons and while you can argue the merits between them, there is no denying that either is superior to Seth MacFarlane's stable of animated atrocities- Family Guy (which was funny for about 3 seasons), American Dad (which was funny only because it was a big 'Fuck You' to Fox for canceling Family Guy), and The Cleveland Show (which was never funny).
The original run on Fox ended with The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings, a moving story about how Fry trades his human hands for the Robot Devil's in order to play the holophoner, a ferociously complicated instrument that produces visual effects as well as sounds, so he can impress Leela. Deafened by Bender, Leela trades her hand in marriage to the Robot Devil for robot ears so she can hear the end of Fry's masterpiece. To save Leela, Fry trades back the Robot Devil's hands and becomes hopelessly untalented again. At the end of the episode Leela prevails on Fry to play his finale, a tribute to his love for her, and the story ends.
Or does it? Repeats were picked up by The Cartoon Network from 2003 to 2007 and in 2008 to 2009 there were 4 four episode direct to DVD 'movies' which are generally considered the 5th season.
Comedy Central picked up the show in 2010 and an additional 26 episodes were produced, many of which explained and expanded existing plot lines and all of which were funny.
So is this all there is? I'll let Wikipedia continue-
Groening has said he will try to get it picked up by another network. In an August 30, 2013 interview with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, co-star Katey Sagal said regarding the series finale, "So I don't believe it... I just hold out hope for it because it has such a huge fan base, it's such a smart show, and why wouldn't somebody want to keep making that show; so that's my thought, I'm just in denial that it's over". Sagal also mentioned during the same interview that Matt Groening told her at Comic-Con that "we'll find a place" and "don't worry, it's not going to end."
Already shown at 10 pm ET, the final finale? will repeat immediately following the end of
The Colbert Report.
Speaking of our boys, tonight on The Daily Show Jon will be hosting Mario Livio and on The Colbert Report Stephen will have Gary England.

As you may notice I was very impressed by Jon's piece on Syria last night. Alas after a brief run this morning The Daily Show player went down (at least for embedding) and I've been unable to tell if this is a permanent condition or not.
Sigh, why can we never have nice things?
