I write a travel blog that has now made one of its few political statements. The blog is [ http://www.tayloredrvtraveling.com] The text of the post is as follows:
NO WAR!
In my writing of this blog I try to keep my posts apolitical. However, there are times when this is not possible and this is one of those times.
The United States of America has no cause to go to war with Syria. When you begin bombing another country, even without a formal declaration of war, you are at war with that country no matter how you try to mince your words. We as a people cannot afford a new war after the last two trillion dollar disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The majority of the people in this country are getting poorer with each passing year. The life expectancy of poor women in this country has declined five years since the year 2000….The only major industrialized country to experience such a decline. Our infrastructure is a disgrace and in need of immediate attention. Folks are being denied or dropped from Medicaid and the Food Stamp Programs because of the lack of funds. School budgets are being cut for lack of funds. Basic government services are being cut across the board for lack of funds. The list could go on and on….
How many billions of the dollars that we need to spend here at home will be spent on a limited bombing campaign against Syria? Does anyone know? I have my doubts that anyone does. Again, look to what happened with Iraq and Afghanistan. We, as a people are on the edge of a new money-pit that goes by the name Syria.
There is no question that Bashar al-Assad is a murdering bastard. However, the world is rife with his like. Take his case to the International Criminal Court and have him, and his henchmen, indicted, arrested, and put on trial as war criminals. That is a totally acceptable response to his crimes against humanity.
I was a delegate for Barack Obama to the Colorado State Democratic Convention in 2008, and twice voted for him for President. I still support him, and believe that he has done a fine job considering all the crap he has had to put up with. But if the bombs start dropping and the missiles start flying he will be making a terrible mistake. Please Mr. President……. No war with Syria!
I have written to my Congress Critters and my President. Please do the same.
A final question that perhaps dates me….Why don’t we take it to the streets anymore? It’s time…just let me know where and when!
