The Catholic Church held a huge demonstration in St. Peter's Square on Saturday ostensibly to pray for peace. If Pope Francis was the moral world leader he claims to be, his first action as pontiff could have been a similar demonstration praying for the hundreds of thousands of victims of sex abuse by the Church. He could order every secret record be released by the Vatican, the dioceses and the religious orders and that every victim be adequately compensated if it takes the Church's last dime (which it wouldn't). Along with the release of all the documents, the pope could order that records of every prelate, priest or member of a religious order involved in harming children be handed over to civil authorities.
There have always been wars, genocide, atrocities. But the fact that the Catholic Church held its first ever "peace" rally in St. Peter's Square only after Pres. Obama proposed a limited airstrike against military targets was meant to frame the Democratic president as a war monger.
The Church's geopolitical goals have not changed with a new pope nor can its victims expect much more that lip service under the new regime.
