Strawn, Texas - Coal Miners of Thurber walk out and sign up with U.M.W.of A.
One thousand coal miners walked out of the Texas and Pacific Mines in Thurber, Texas, yesterday. They made their way to the camps of the Strawn Coal Mining Company where they signed up with the United Mine Workers of America and took the pledge as union miners.
And in Southern Colorado: Coal miners are preparing to go out on strike for the eight hour day. The United Mine Workers of America has shipped 700 tents into the area to house the miners and their families as they are expected to be evicted from the shacks which the coal companies provide them as homes. It is expected that 20,000 coal miners in Las Animas and Huerfano Counties will answer the strike call. Many of them are employed by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, the largest coal mining company in Colorado.

Washington, D. C. - Bishop Donahue testifies that the Bible will cure all strikes
Testifying before the Senate Committee newly reconvened to investigate conditions in the Paint Creek mining district of West Virginia, Bishop Donahue of Wheeling stated that the Bible and forced church attendance would be his plan to cure all strikes:
First of all, I would require both operators and miners to go to church, twice every Sunday. I would give each a Bible as a steering chart, and then give them about eight beatitudes, and make them hang two or three in their bedrooms, such as "Blessed are the poor in Spirit," and " Blessed are the meek." Those would cause them to forget to use the machine guns.
He blamed the troubles equally on the greed of the coal operators and the greed of the miners. It seems that, to the Bishop, a miner who fights for fair weights, shorter hours, and props in the mines is just as guilty of the sin of greed as the coal operator who demands ever more and more of the wealth produced by the miner.
We will also point out that it was the coal operators and not the United Mine Workers of American who purchased the machine gun which was mounted on the Death Special and driven about the strike zone to menace the miners.
The Death Special
Mother Jones was pleased with Senators Borah and Maritne for their deft questioning of the Bishop and fired off this telegram from Denver, Colorado:
Colorado miners join with me in tendering sincere congratulations for the splendid manner in which you handled the workers' cause when in controversy with the Wheeling sky-pilot.

From Making Change at Walmart: "That was just a start!"
Walmart Workers have just begun to fight! Black Friday is fast approaching, and the time to start organizing for those events is NOW:
As a Walmart worker who participated in the protests last week, I want to thank you so much for your standing with us.
At times it can be intimidating to challenge the largest private employer in the world to do better. Your support helps remind me that we're not alone.
Here are just a few of the highlights from the day:
Thousands of community members and Walmart workers protested in 15 cities.
More than 100 people were arrested for participating in non-violent acts of civil disobedience to call for change at Walmart.
#WalmartStrikers became a trending hashtag, reaching more than 2 million Twitter users.
We raised $13k and collected more than 180,000 petition signatures.
One worker had her disciplinary action for going on strike removed.
That's just the start. We're planning on making this Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, a day Walmart will remember. Will you join us?
If you plan to support us this Black Friday, follow this link to take the pledge:
