..despite what way many on both the right and left have been saying.
Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) Wisconsin: threat of force didn’t do it
“I want to take issue with one thing that’s prevalent out there. This belief that it is the threat of force that got us to this moment.
I actually believe that it was the Presidents’ decision to come to congress, so that international debate ensued.
The worlds’ attention is on Syria right now and their use of chemical weapons, and I think this is a moment in which we can get our allies to stand forward and stand with us.”
- Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) Wisconsin
- emphasis added
It was a very good decision by the President.
(short ad – sorry)
Senator Tammy Baldwin advocates these issues are all peoples’ responsibility and must be addressed by the Global community, not unilateral action by US
Kudos to Tammy Baldwin (and not just because this is what I too thought when the President made this move) but to push back on the idea that the threat of force was the necessary road, seen almost as a requirement to peace talks and an eventual solution to ending chemical/biological- all - warfare forever.
We Dems shouldn’t buy into this idea that threat of force was/is the only answer, and we should make some noise about it too - imo
Just a short comment diary because it’s a good thought that hasn’t been voiced by enough people it seems to me.
