IAfter WWII, the US more or less inherited Britain's place in the world. Britain was being forcibly divested of their colonies, so decided to not be an empire any longer. brilliant timing. The problem is that when Britain was  the colonial power it drew maps. Maps ignorant of the particulars of the different people that inhabited such places. I think they called them all ( italics if I could WOGS and their lives were ( are?) worth much less than the iife of an Englishman. Thus the US obsession about whether 'our' citizens are being harmed. I am sure the obsessive concern for ones countrymen seems like racism. So, in one great sleight of hand, Britain handed us their colonies, at least their defense and France even got us to try to mess with indochina. So far so good. One might imagine that if the US planners knew the Vietnamese fought a 1000 year war against an occupying China maybe, just maybe that would have entered into their consciousness. Naw…….The lines drawn by British bureaucrats post Great War are killing thousands. It show that conservatives have a function, if they do it. Warn against unintended consequences. During the BushII year they abdicated this role and now BushII has given War a bad name.

I never had the guts or opportunity ( i do spend much time with rednecks) to declare my Bush gives war a bad name. But I was listening to some dumbass cracker spew about how anyone against the Iraq war was a pacifist and wouldn't mind if you smacked 'em in the face, I know several martial arts or US Army hand to hand training who are progressive vegans and would be profoundly unscared by a stupid cracker. The only one who is at least consistent was Rep Paul, who along with SEn Boxer were like the only no votes or close. It is so obvious that the exact proposal put forth by Shrub would pass on party solidarity. No we have a Republic, not a Democracy but the surety that the 'real Americans' agree with the Tea baggers is the enemy within, warmed up. Even though I am glad the non- interventionist cadre of GOPism has risen from the dead, I wanna see the R's grovel. In order to cast a NO vote they must come to live an an occupy or Rainbow Family homestead, live like us. No SecSEr. Could he hack it? It is a fantasy......

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
