So this bull shit happened this week:

A month ago, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R), who is seeking to succeed Rick Perry as governor, came under fire for tweeting to thank a supporter for a sexist attack on a potential Democratic opponent. Now, his top political adviser has stepped into the same quagmire, tweeting that State Senator Wendy Davis (D) is “too stupid to
be governor.”
Dave Carney, who ran Perry’s Texas campaigns from 1998 to 2012, is now Abbott’s top strategist. In 2010, he earned the ire of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palln (R) for calling one of the proposed details of the primary debate “just retarded.”
Thursday, Carney tweeted an article from a conservative Texas blog. The piece in question cheered the results of Tuesday’s Colorado recall elections and was called “Total Recall in CO (and why Wendy Davis is too Stupid to be Governor)” — a title included verbatim in his tweet.

Here's a little more info on that article that was retweeted:

The link leads to an Urban Grounds post in which a blogger celebrates the recall of two Democratic senators in Colorado, and explains why he thinks "Texas state Senator Wendy 'Abortion Barbie' Davis is even dumber than her fake blonde hair would imply."
The tweet came only weeks after Abbott thanked a supporter for a tweet that referred to Wendy Davis as "Retard Barbie." - Huffington Post, 9/12/13
And here's a little more background info on Dave Carney:

Carney may be a familiar name. In fact, he's basically a landmark in Texas long trail to electoral dysfunction and GOP pandering to the super-right. Moreover, he has been Perry's right hand campaign man for years, including the infamous face plant that was Perry's 2012 run for president, as well as Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst's abortive US Senate shot. (He was also connected to an oddball 2010 attempt to get the Green Party on the ballot, in an attempt to dilute and split liberal voters.) - Austin Chronicle, 9/14/13
Texas Democrats point out that this is all part of Abbott and the Texas GOP's strategy anti-woman game plan:

Continuing the Texas Republican tradition of disrespecting women, today Greg Abbott's top political adviser, Dave Carney, tweeted that Wendy Davis is too stupid to be governor.
Statement from Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Will Hailer:
"It's clear that Abbott's advisers are following a strategy of offending every woman voter in the state of Texas. A woman who worked her way from a trailer park to graduate from Harvard Law School with honors is anything but stupid. Women throughout the state know what it's like to have their intelligence ignored and made a joke. It's never been a good idea to mess with Texas women. And come November 2014, the women of Texas will make clear that the joke's actually on Republicans who find it okay to reference such a hard working and smart woman as stupid." - Burnt Orange Report, 9/12/13
This is who we're up against people. Davis hasn't even announced her candidacy but the Texas GOP is so afraid of her that they're restoring to disgusting, sexist attacks. But we are not going to let them get away with it next year. EMILY's List Preisdent Stephanie Schriock is looking forward to next year and has some high hopes for Davis:

Q. What do you think about the prospect of Wendy Davis running for governor of Texas?
A. It’s fantastic. Texas is moving demographically in the right direction for Democrats. More importantly, we’ve got a candidate in Wendy Davis, if she decides to do it, who can really reach out to communities that haven’t voted for Democrats in quite awhile. It’s her record as a state senator here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I look at that record of economic advancement, economic empowerment and her work with veterans all as issues that are above and beyond what she’s known for right now.
Q. Sen. Davis became nationally known and a potential candidate for governor by staging a filibuster against an anti-abortion bill. In Texas, is it really a good thing to be known for trying to stop an anti-abortion bill? Can she move beyond the filibuster?
A. Wendy Davis is an incredibly smart state senator. She’s going to make this governor’s race about the future of Texas. It’s going to be about where the economy is going, what people need, the education system. It’s going to be a broader conservation. Nationally what folks have seen in Wendy Davis, and I believe what people in Texas have seen, is not just a woman who stood up on the floor and filibustered, they saw courage. They saw fearlessness. They saw character willing to stand up to what she believed was an injustice.
Q. As you know, the odds are against Sen. Davis becoming governor. Have you accepted the likelihood that Davis will lose?
A. Emily’s List does like to win. We have won a lot of races and we have lost a lot of races. We’re still living in a nation where 24 states, Texas not being one of these, have not elected a woman governor, ever. We have a country that hasn’t elected a woman president, yet. The time is going to come soon. These are not easy races. Campaigns are about people and ideas. If you don’t run, you’re never going to win. We hope that someone as qualified as Wendy Davis takes the chance. She’ll never win if she doesn’t run. - The Dallas Morning News, 9/13/13
Whether Davis decides to run for Governor or re-election to the Texas state Senate, she deserves our full support. Hopefully we'll be hearing her decision soon but in the mean time, just to play it safe, lets donate to her re-election campaign:
