Do you get frustrated by all the misinformation about the Affordable Care Act that people express in the comments section of news and opinion sites? Here's a quick and easy thing you can do to encourage folks to sign up anyway...
Simply copy and paste this paragraph (or your own version of it) into the comments section anytime the commenters are discussing (or diss-ing) Obamacare.
If you are uninsured or your premiums are too high or you have pre-existing conditions, go to www.healthcare.gov to create an account. The plans will be posted starting October 1. A family of four with an income between $24,000 and $98,000 will be eligible for reduced monthly premiums, free (no copayment) high-risk diabetes and cholesterol screenings, free vaccinations, free annual pap smears and mammograms -- all with your own doctor! -- and much more. These benefits will be provided only to those people who sign up between Oct. 1 and March 31. It won't hurt to check it out!
The intention is to get them to look it up and get informed. We know that many people who oppose the ACA or are afraid of it are simply uninformed. And many of them will qualify for subsidies and reduced premiums. Give them a little positive information, without editorializing, and let them investigate on their own. Keep it nice, keep it simple, keep it helpful.
Winning hearts and minds, one person at a time!
