Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) is almost ready to announce her gubernatorial bid -- but first she will expand her social network just a little bit more.
In an e-mail sent to her supporters Wednesday morning, Davis -- who garnered national attention this summer for fighting a sweeping antiabortion bill in her state -- wrote she will be "answering the question" of what's next for her career on Oct. 3. But before making her formal announcement, she posed a question of her own: "Do you have any friends or family who would like to be among the first to know?

The Fort Worth Democrat stopped short of revealing her decision, saying she would make a formal announcement about her decision on Oct. 3. But the well-trodden tactic of announcing an announcement clearly signals a campaign far larger than a re-election bid to her state Senate seat. The slow roll out has become a hallmark of modern campaigns.
No other Democrat has expressed interest in running for governor in Texas, where a Democrat hasn't won a statewide office in 20 years. Experts say Davis would need to raise $40 million to mount a serious campaign. The leading Republican candidate, Attorney General Greg Abbott, has raised more than $20 million.
n addition, Emily's List Leader Stephanie Schriock points out that a Wendy Davis for Governor candidacy would fire up the base in Texas in ways not done so before:

What do you think about the prospect of Wendy Davis running for governor of Texas?
“It’s fantastic. Texas is moving demographically in the right direction for Democrats. More importantly, we’ve got a candidate in Wendy Davis, if she decides to do it, who can really reach out to communities that haven’t voted for Democrats in quite awhile.
“It’s her record as a state senator here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I look at that record of economic advancement, economic empowerment and her work with veterans all as issues that are above and beyond what she’s known for right now.”
The way I see it, a Wendy Davis for Governor candidacy could help Democrats nationally in GOTV and voter registration as far as U.S. Congressional Races. Currently the following Democrats are running to challenge Republicans in 2014:
1st Congressional District: Shirley McKellar is challenging Rep. Louie Gohmert
7th Congressional District: James Cargas is challenging Rep. John Culbertson
19th Congressional District: Neal Marchbanks is challenging Rep. Randy Neugebauer
31st Congressional District: Louie Minor Jr. is challenging Rep. John Carter
36th Congressional District: Michael Cole is challenging Rep. Steve Stockman
There will likely be more Democrats challenging GOP incumbents in the House at some point given for Congressional races, it's still early for most voters.
That being said, I am not certain that Wendy Davis would guarantee any Democratic gains in the U.S. House but if anything, the Democratic base in Texas would be fired up even more that it is now and the candidates as mentioned above could get additional ground support.
In other words, a Wendy Davis for Governor campaign would mean lots of voter registration drives for Democrats in Texas. We would just have to make sure those voters show up at the polls come November 2014.
For now, nothing's official as of yet for Davis until she officially states so in Oct 3.
How would Governor Oops respond to a Wendy Davis Gubernatorial bid?
Yeah, didn't think he'd say much.
