Friday! And the weekend approaches. Some of us have projects to do, some have chores, some have hours of nothing punctuated by rain and storms and watching old reruns. After a week of mass shootings, fighting for food stamps, worrying about Syria and the Republicans shutting down the government, it's time to relax just for a bit. Remember the joy of the Sunday funny pages? Well, there's an option out there that costs less and won't leave ink on your fingers. Granted, it doesn't work with silly putty, but they're still amusing. And they're more grown up, for the most part. I'm talking about web comics.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a (mostly) finished diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths
Sunday: loggersbrat
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
This is a community Diary whose purpose is well stated. Trolls will not be tolerated. They will be eaten, fed to the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, or referred to the Wild Hunt depending on the taste of the Diarist. If you don't like community diaries or the subject matter, don't read it. Thank you.
There are several varieties of web comics, ranging from simple line drawings like
Phil Likes Tacos which is about life in the fast food worker's lane.
and XKCD Random sometimes intellectual usually funny and sometimes deep cartoons.
To shaded black and whites like
That Deaf Guy About a family with a deaf husband and hearing Mom and kid.
And fully colored works with an epic fantasy flare like
Gaia
If you like more.. comedic adult themed comics there are a few good ones I follow including
Questionable Content
Girls with Slingshots
And of course Foamy Foamy has the added pull of being in video, so you can hear as well as read the comics.
And then there are the comics for nerds such as
Looking for Group for the Gamers,
And Gene's Journal for the Trekkies
Of course you can't forget the professional author's special graphic novel/comic presentations of their own work. Like this one by Stephen King:
Little Green God of Agony
And then of course there's always the cute and adorable and fitting for children of all ages:
And of course there are the classics online, like at GoComics.com
So next time you have a day, as Dr. Seuss would say... when
The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house
All that cold, cold wet day
Don't rely on Thing 1 and Thing 2,
Just open up a comic or two!
The Archives are there
You can start from the start
And laugh all day long
Till the rain it departs.
