I can no more make an argument for the Jewish State of Israel than I could make a case for a Christian state or the Islamic Republic of Iran without sounding like a total hypocrite.
First allow me to state that I am not a “self hating Jew”; most if not all of my heroes are Jewish: Carl Sagan, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein...
I both admire and love the Jewish people as I love all of humanity and think the human race is far richer culturally with them than without.
That being said, While at the US Social Form a few years ago in downtown Detroit (a global Liberal forum) I encountered "Anti-Zionist" Jews! Yes, Jews who do not tie themselves to "holy-dirt" (like Vampires) or a Wailing-wall. This kinda, "blew my mind", "but there I was, (oh there I was)"
International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN):

I like there tag-line: "Never Again" (for everyone)!
The one thing we Liberals hold dear is intellectual honesty and logical consistency. If religious states are a bad idea, then logically it should follow that all religious states are a bad idea.
