Out of curiosity, I wondered how much Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) little tantrum on the Senate floor cost the United States of America. You know, you and me, and every taxpayer.
Of course, it's a little difficult to actually compute. Usually, for most salaried/40-hour per week workers, you can divide their salary by 2000 to roughly figure out the hourly wage with 2 weeks of vacation. (Senators are only in session a few months each year, but yes, they do certainly work more than that, mostly toward re-election.)
United States Senators currently make $174,000 per year. If they work a 40-ish hour week on average throughout the year, then they make about $87 per hour. That's not horrendous compared to corporate leaders- assuming they work that much for their constituents. However ...
At $87 per hour, for 21 hours, and 100 US Senators: The little fake vitriolic, ranting, semi-filibuster (Mr. Calgary goes to Washington) cost the United States of America, and all of its citizens: $182,700.
That's some great fiscal responsibility. And ignorance. Damned idiots from Texas. Let them secede.
I know $182K is a tiny amount when it comes to government spending, but when someone who wants to prevent the US from paying its debts decides to waste more than his own annual salary in 21 hours, and tries to claim "fiscal responsibility," oh Jebus.
