So today is laundry day and grocery day for me - and that requires going into the other parts of the house where FOX news is blaring at 200db - you can't avoid hearing it without being deaf yourself.
But as I was listening and muttering, "They're LYING to you!" under my breath I suddenly realised why they are being so effective - it's HOW they are lying to people.
More below the dooblydoo.
So Cruz was blathering on about not know what doctors you will get and it hit me - they are describing the exchanges as a single PLAN, not a market. So people who watch FOX don't understand that there are plans to choose from, that different providers are participating in the exchanges - they are being told that the exchanges are a plan - a big mystery plan that who knows who will accept.
Which is really slick when you think about it - if they told people they were getting the opportunity to shop around, to peruse plans from companies that wouldn't offer them coverage before - then it just wouldn't sound scary. By intentionally denying there is a marketplace AT ALL they can blather on about how it undermines capitalism as they see it. They are telling people it's scary communist single payer that won't work - because no sensible "real" doctor will accept it.
This is why my brother was so confused when I talked to him about the possibility of access for him for less money - he didn't understand there was a marketplace at all. He's a diabetic working part time with a shit plan partially paid for by VoldeMart - it never occurred to him that the ACA means that good plans will now be affordable and even open to him - because he too watches FOX.
So if we want to fight this - we need to fight what they are actually telling people, not the representatives who are lying. We need to fight the lies so more Americans have live healthier, longer lives with coverage they can afford.
