1776 - A bizarre collection of land and slave owning rich men, combined forces, and decided to commit treason. The country they eventually created would be a shining example to freedom fighters everywhere, and a beacon of hope to the oppressed, the poor, and to those who suffered the fate of being the wrong religion, race, nationality, skin color, and of late, sexual preference. This mighty experiment lasted 237 years, far longer than many monarchs, tsars, princes, and religious bigots had predicted.
2013 - The American experiment in Democracy came crashing down as several forces joined together and destroyed the very foundation of a formerly great nation. Among the culprits were billionaire funded groups like TeaBuggerers, ALEC, Heritage Foundation, as well as deregulated greedy and corrupt bastards on Wall Street. The joining together of unregulated billions, irrational anti-government ideas of ALEC and TeaBuggerers, as well as a total absence of shame, humanity, and ethical leadership within the GO P party proved powerful enough to destroy an entire country.
FROM THE CHURCH OF INEFFABLE STUPIDITY:
Of all the thoughts that have echoed within my cavernous skull this weekend, one idea painfully made its way to surface: Our future as a functioning nation is grim, gloomy, perhaps even dire. We may be witnessing the end of our country this weekend.
Somehow, the GO P managed to emasculate itself, tossing out rational, semi-moderate, patriots, while permitting a nauseating group of anti-government, racist, sexist, and extraordinarily conservative christian illiterates replace them and take control. Not just of the GO P, but of the entire House, and therefore, our entire government.
The winners in this mess? Grover Nordquist, ALEC, the Koch brothers and their political hatchetmen, the greediest of the greedy in Wall Street, Big Oil, and revolting groups like the American Family Association (which is about as uncaring, unchristian, and evil as their make-believe villain, Satan. Beezelbub. The Devil. Lucifer. Angel of Darkness, Antichrist, Apollyon. Mephistopheles. Rick Santorum.). TeaBuggerers.
The losers? The rest of us, perhaps even the rest of the world.
What do you call a group of government-hating, ultra-conservative, bible beating bastards, who took Grover's oft-quoted wish and took it to heart? If you hate the federal government so much, why run for office? Unless your plan was get elected, then dismantle the very mechanisms that made our government function for two hundred + years. Some call them the Tea Party. I call them traitors.
There is a huge difference between the treasonous colonials of 1776 and our current collection of anti-government TeBuggerers. Our founding fathers had a plan - independence, democracy, freedom from a distant monarch. They had a desire and a vision of what government should be like. If you look at the preamble of our current constitution, it is printed there. Clear, concise, and promising, those words have focused the purpose and the goals of this nation.
Just because those words are so powerful, so important, I repeat them here:
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the General Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Unlike our founding fathers, the TeaBuggerer's only goal appears to be some insane version of government-free living, a misguided, impossible utopia(?) from the wretched works of Ayn Rand. Instead of dreaming of improving the lives of every single person in our country, they seem to thrive on other people's pain and suffering.
The petulant posturing of the House Republicans would seem far more appropriate in a preschool day care center than in the nation's seat of power. Yet, this GO P created monster has far more control over House operations than what anyone would expect, given how few americans actually support the TeaBugger policies and promises.
The House GO P has two tasks: To pass a debt bill that guarantees that the full faith and credit of this country remains intact, and to fund the government so millions of people can live their lives in peace and harmony. Promoting the "General Welfare" is not some socialist pipe-dream. It represents everything that our nation stands for.
Sadly, the House will fail in both tasks, because too many TeaBuggerers hold office and are intent on throwing this country off the cliff.
In a just world, today's TeaBuggerers would be facing charges of treason. Ours is not a just world.
