Personally, I lean more toward metal and classic hard rock. My iPod song shuffle is not so much dictated by my DNA as it is more skewed by my life experiences. But I unexpectedly ran into an artist that piqued my interest - Alan Jackson.
Before I get to the video, just be aware that I'm not a huge fan of the country music scene, and I always pigeonholed Alan Jackson as "country". After listening to an interview with Jackson (and hearing some music clips) on Morning Edition yesterday, I decided to dig a bit deeper. His latest album touches a personal and musical chord with me, because while I'm not a fan of commercial country music, I love bluegrass, and I really like story tellers. Jackson fits both in his latest musical transition:
I'm not fascinated with bluegrass, but I find it very appealing in live performance (especially due to some past personal connections to a great musician who migrated to bluegrass), and I always thought it was a fun genre in a bar party atmosphere. And then the George Clooney vehicle, "O Brother, Where Art Thou" hit the public, and I was if not hooked, at least more intrigued:
So, since this seems to becoming a Saturday night routine for me, where are you at musically this week? Ever dip your toes into bluegrass?
