The twisted logic is almost dizzying here: The National Republican Senatorial Committee is accusing Democrats of trying to distract from the immediate threat of government shutdown—because Democrats pointed out that Republicans included an
irrelevant assault on birth control in their continuing resolution.
Yes, really. Republicans brought up the issue, attempting to make the continued funding of the government dependent on employers being allowed to exclude birth control from the health coverage they offer workers. Democrats pointed out that this was an attack on women Republicans were attempting to write into law. And the NRSC came back with this:
This takes the cake. Washington has been dysfunctional for 5 years under Democratic control, yet as the government moves closer to shutdown, Democratic men are focused on birth control and sex rather than making sure the government doesn't shut down.
Well, that does take the cake. Washington has been dysfunctional in large part because of a sustained campaign by Republicans to make it dysfunctional, it's Republicans trying to mess with women's access to birth control as the government moves closer to shutdown, and Democratic
men? Uh, sure, Democratic men also know this is bad policy, but the inclusion of "men" in that sentence is pretty clearly, and hilariously, an attempt to deflect from the fact that, once again, Republican men are trying to insert the government between women's legs.
Attention Democrats: Women don't want the government to shut down and overwhelmingly don't want ObamaCare.
Attention Republicans:
Americans don't want Obamacare defunded and overwhelmingly
oppose Republican threats of shutdown over defunding.
Here’s a novel idea - rather than wasting time using scare tactics against women in an effort to make gender politics the centerpiece of their electoral strategy, perhaps the boys of Maryland Ave can instead focus on finding candidates that actually represent voters’ voices (oh, and urging your male candidates to spend less time being creepy on Facebook and Twitter).
Here's a novel idea—rather than trying to give women's bosses the right to decide about their medical care in an effort to keep women down, perhaps the boys of the Republican party can instead focus on keeping the government running instead of taking it to the brink of shutdown over things like women's right to birth control and defunding a health care law that they've tried and failed to repeal dozens of times already and that Americans just want them to move on from. Also, too, the party of Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock thinks it has ammunition in Cory Booker being polite to a stripper? Ha ha f'ing ha. This is some high-octane lunacy right here.
Stand with Daily Kos and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in denouncing Republicans who would completely shut down the government just to destroy Obamacare.
