Maybe if it reads more like a Dr. Seuss book, those in the halls of power will finally get it. With so much at stake, it's at least worth a shot.
Our founding fathers would be crying today
Filled with grief and anger and utter dismay
The government they bled for and built up from scratch
Is being held hostage in a grand pissing match
It’s a shutdown, not a slimdown, so get the facts straight
That’s just another deception, so don’t take the bait
It’s the likes of Cruz and Bachman and their cronies on FOX
That are handing out the blankets infected with pox
For months there were offers to sit down and talk
Met with delusional talking points scribbled in chalk
This isn’t the way a great nation leads
Talk is cheap, we need action and deeds
Governing takes honor, respect, and the will to help others
Instead you’re starving out children and blaming their mothers
Yet your party is flummoxed, feigning wonder and awe
Trying to fathom why you can’t kill this law
But one would imagine that after forty times failing
You’d see that ship has sunk, so no need to keep bailing
Because twice the people have spoken with their ballots and votes
That’s how democracy works you obstructionist dolts
How many stories of pain will you need to hear
Before you quit using terrorist tactics like blackmail and fear
How many more heroes will you disregard and deny
Causing anguish for their families when they just want to cry
Yet your life is still easy, you’re still getting your money
But for the rest of the nation, it’s not all milk and honey
Our veterans, small businesses, our retired and more
Feel your boot on their throat and hear you closing the door
These are real Americans, not enemies that defected
They are the reason for which you all were elected
So it’s time to grow up and do the job as intended
It’s time this moronic game is once and for all ended
And if you can’t or won’t do it, this is my wish for you
May you suffer tenfold for all that you do
