Embattled and clueless, Sandusky-protecting Pennsy Governor Tom Corbett was on a Harrisburg radio show this morning, feeling the political need to apologize for his lawyers’ previous written statements (in court filings) on gay marriage, where they likened it to marriage between two children, which is also “against Pennsylvania law.”

I guess Corbett was not satisfied being an asshole for merely stalling the Sandusky child sex abuse investigations when he was AG (thereby allowing more sex acts against children); or for lying about fracking; or for saying that women should just “close their eyes”, so they don’t have to see the invasive state-mandated ultrasound procedure that is raping them.

He also must have experienced some internal dissonance on the radio show this morning after he called his lawyers’ comparing of gay marriage to marriage between children “inappropriate”, because the next thing he said was:

“A much better analogy would have been brother and sister, don’t you?”
State Dems called on Corbett to apologize, blah blah blah.  Why even apologize?  Why apologize for what you are and what you believe?  Please proceed, Governor:  Keep showing us what a backward, lying, uncaring asshole you truly are.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    •  The PA GOP.....the gift that keeps on giving... (6+ / 0-)

      from Corbett's latest to:

The Speaker of the PA House gloating to his fellow Republicans that passage of a Voter ID law would guarantee Romney's won PA's electoral votes and the national presidential election (that one didn't work too well.)

The State Representative who claimed that the ID law did what it was supposed to do....shave some points off the resulting Democratic victory in the state

The state executive charged with enforcing the new ID law, who when asked under oath to cite any evidence of voter fraud (the rationale for GOP passage of the bill), said she could not, nor did she anticipate any in the  then upcoming election (that law by the way, is still under State Supreme Court review and not operative, although the GOP has several million bucks set aside for a selected group of connected GOP PR jacks to "educate" the public if and when it is approved.)

Meanwhile, we still lack a public transportation bill, meaning more and more aging state bridges have to be downgraded, forcing trucks and passenger cars to take alternative routes to get to destinations, inadequate funding for education, health care and the environment, and a Governor who strongly believes that gay marriage is icky and like marrying your sister.

Little wonder that Mr. Corbett's rankings are abysmal.

in the legislative calendar. PA sucks with these assholes running it. I wasn't a big Rendell fan, but I'd take him any day of the week, and twice on Sundays, over Corbett on his best behavior.

    •  You are correct, sir! He (still) claims that it (0+ / 0-)

took him (I think) over 12 months to even bring an indictment, because his office was still investigating. Meanwhile, the present DA Kane claims that charges could easily have been brought in several weeks (I think she said...it was a much shorter time frame than a year!!!), and the investigation ongoing AFTER he was in custody.

Meanwhile, children were RAPED because he didn't do his job.  I can't think of a lower person than that in the whole mess, save for 'dusky himself!

  •  Civil Marriage vs Sacramental Marriage (0+ / 0-)

All "marriage" IS a cultural artifact, designed and practiced to meet the economic and social needs of the people practicing it.  Some faith communities assert that their  Design has supernatural origins

Sacramental Marriage is unique to Christianity and  comes in two varieties:

There's the INdissoluable version practiced by Catholics and Mormons ... and the DISsoluable version practiced by Protestants.  (Discuss  among yourselves as to whether Mormons are Christians, or "memerly" practice a Christian Derived faith, like Unitarian Universalism)

EVERYONE ELSE in the religious world uses some variation on a "Contractual" marriage -- their Gods (if any) are called upon to witness and bless the new family ... but there's no sacramental equivalent of "Signifying unto us the mystical union between Christ and His Church" -- and all the cultural freight that comes along with that idea.

But Civil Marriage ... the kind we take out licenses for ... didn't really come into existence until the late 1800s when States began to require the licensing of all marriages -- whether they be performed in a Church by a Minister, or in a Registry Office performed by a clerk.

Now there ARE drawbacks to people "marrying close". There's the eugenics thing, of course,  and it was of immense importance in the late 19th century. ...But the inbreeding of wealth and culture can also create societal problems ... so there IS a "overriding state interest" in forbidding the marriage of brothers and sisters, and first and second cousins.

BUT ... the Eugenic concerns apply only where there is a prospect of children resulting from the marriage.  So, yes, brothers and sisters of childbearing age should NOT be encourage to marry by the state.

But, what about siblings well past the childbearing years ?

They, of course can do what same sex couples of all ages USED to have to do:  co habitate and spend a fortune on lawyers, accountants and wealth managers to allocate their worldly assets.

Or -- they might register a marriage.

Now, from a Parochial point of view ... that's just AWFUL. Which is why that point of view is CALLED "parochial."
