Hi. My name is ultrageek, and I'm a postaholic.
It has been 960 days since my last post.
960.
For those of you following me on Facebook, you know what's next.
(2^6)*3*5
Yes.
(2^6)*3*5
Except on Facebook, I raise to the power with double asterisks. Formatting. Feh.
I joined DailyKos a very long time ago. Back in the days when you could have multiple postings in a day. And, while I wasn't a hog about it, I posted my share.
In 2005/6, I analyzed all the Congressional districts in the country, realized where we could make a difference, and raised 17k for Democrats nationwide. A great many of my candidates won. In districts no one ever guessed we had a chance in.
KS2, Nancy Boyda. IA-2 Dave Loesback. AZ-5 Harry Mitchell. And where I didn't win, I got awfully close. NM-1 Patricia Madrid. FL-16 Christine Jennings.
I got in an argument with Rahm Emanuel in a shoe store about how he was handling IL6. He told me I didn't understand politics. That there were half-a-dozen races in contention, and he wanted the Sixth. I told him he wasn't going to get it; that he should run Tammy Duckworth in the Tenth and we could get rid of Mark Kirk. He told me I was insane. We damn near beat Kirk with Dan Seals, a no-name, no-money African American guy running in one of the richest suburb areas of Chicago.
I got Howard Dean's attention. He invited my partner and me to a private function. He told me I knew the Congressional districts better than he did.
I got the attention of Mark Pera who was running against Dan Lipinski in IL-4. He asked me for some advice on how to handle a couple of positions.
And the seats I lost in 2006, I largely won in 2008.
I wish I had been in Vegas.
But I haven't posted here in a long time.
Why?
Because I'm preaching to the choir here.
On Facebook, I'm preaching to 840 of my friends who don't understand what's happening and why.
And I take the time to post long and intricate posts as to what is happening and why, and I'm teaching a lot of people a lot of things they didn't know.
But that's not this audience.
There's nothing I can tell you that a hundred other people haven't told you already, and, probably better.
Not about what's going on.
For example, today, I posted on Facebook:
"The Republican party: destroying the fabric of American democracy, playing chicken with the world economy, and wrecking the full faith and credit of the United States so poor people can't have access to health care. Or because they hate the black guy.
But they're not heartless. Or racist. Just ask em."
Short. Sweet. To the point. And there's no arguing with it. Even my Republican friends don't argue it. Because it's true.
And some of my posts go on and on and on and on.
Like this does.
But each paragraph would be a separate comment.
And I've had postings hundreds of comments long.
That people have taken the time to cut and paste and repost.
Bless them.
But that's not here.
What DailyKos is good for, in my book, to me, is how we can make a difference, electorally, to elect more and better Democrats.
And so, I'm going to do in 2014 what I did in 2006: Find the races where a couple of thousand activists writing letters and knocking on doors might swing a race.
So, you're going to start seeing a lot of me again.
Ultrageek. Taking Back The House State-by-State.
For those of you who don't know me, hello.
For those of you who do, good to see you again.
After over two-and-a-half years of nothing, you're going to start seeing my diaries again.
The country is a mess.
Provided we make it to the 2014 elections and we still have the right to vote and there are still voting machines that work in every district, we have an opportunity to make 2014 2006 on steroids.
Let's do it.
My name is Ultrageek. I'm a postaholic. And I'm home.
