I recently attended the funeral of my ex-brother-in -law. He leaves behind his wife named Maria. She is from Mexico and I never asked how she managed to come to Seattle.
It appears she came over as a small child with her family and has never tried to be a citizen. She is 50 now and baby sitting is all you will find on her resume.
She knows I have always liked her and asked my help in getting her a job. She was left with little money. She has no children or family.
Getting a Social Security card is not that easy unless you can prove you were approved to be here.
A drivers license is not that hard to get but you need money for a car.
I have friends who clean houses and are always looking for help and that's where I placed her. The owner pays her cash out of her own pocket and Maria is a ghost to the
Social Security folks.
A bill is in front of Congress now to deal with people like Maria. Congress is playing games with her life and making her feel like a crook. The owner of the cleaning business
said "you owe meMichael we get checked and I could get in trouble for giving her a job."
In-action hurts people. Congress should look at the pain on this ladies face. She lost her husband and now feels like a crook working. She never asked to come to our Country.
I talked her out of going back to Mexico. That Country has brought violence to a level that I thought only happened in movies or wars.
Give Mexican Americans an easy pass to citizenship. 90% of the people in our country
would fail the citizenship test given to NEW citizens.
It is possible the Republicans may release our Country from prison soon. When Congress decides to work, make immigration fit reality in 2013.
'We are not
living in eternity.
We have only
this moment,
sparkling like a
star in our hand,
and melting like
a snowflake."
