Force him to take the "Clean CR" Vote, that Boehner himself once agreed to, not so very long ago ...

House Democrats sign discharge petition

by Ginger Gibson, politico.com -- Oct 12, 2013

[...]
But on the 12th day of the shutdown Saturday, more than 100 Democrats filed into the House chamber one-by-one to sign the petition.

“The American people have had enough,” Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y) said at a press conference before the Democrats signed the petition. “The government shutdown has been an abject failure of this Congress to do its job.”

It’s still a long shot thanks to the complicated nature of discharge petitions, one of the only ways the minority can force a vote.
[...]

[Boehner] has prevented Democracy from working its will,” Van Hollen said [ (D-Md.) ranking member on the Budget Committee]. “We’re calling on every member of Congress who has told their constituents that they want to vote to immediately open government that this is the time to show they mean what they say.”

Meanwhile back on the Just-say-No Republican Ranch ...

“We’re not going to be disrespected, We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”
— Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.)

“It seems that there is nothing the media likes to cover more than disagreements among Republicans, and apparently some senators are content to fuel those stories with anonymous quotes. [...]”
— Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)

“Democratic leaders in Congress finally have their prize, a government shutdown that no one seems to want but them,”
— Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)

In Republican fantasy-land, the more things change -- the more they really DON'T.

The R's could end the crisis NOW, if they just do what Rep Van Hollen and the other "patriotic" House Dems say,

-- and allow the "Clean CR" bill -- that they once agreed to -- come to the floor of the House for a basic, "democratic," Up-or-Down Vote.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
