What resistance is possible against the pending tsunami of
new conventional wisdom that,
after Tea Party’s failed hostage-taking,
US voters want Democrats to seek “mature” bargains
with losing VP candidate, fuzzy mathematician and granny-starver Paul Ryan
on Medicare, Medicaid & Social Security?
The
MSM’s predisposition to cement this meme will be powerfully
enabled by
election wins of
Booker (Oct 16),
Christie and McAuliffe (Nov 5).
One of the
few (only?) chances to pre-empt this meme occurs in the
Oct 15 Massachusetts special Congressional election, where
Social Security bargaining has been endorsed by the front-runner, while
the most consistently Progressive (and high-momentum) candidate Carl Sciortino has
highlighted the central importance of not bargaining away Social Security and Medicare.
The more detailed information that Democratic primary voters receive about the many Democratic candidates and
their endorsements, the more likely they are to vote for Sciortino and
send a message to Washington and the MSM that they (and other voters) are against breaking the existing social contract on Social Security and Medicare.
Every vote counts in the likely low turnout of this local special election. There is still time to make a difference through contributing, volunteering and voting.
