The circus we are witnessing in Washington this week as we are on the brink of a debt ceiling deadline is but one battle.  A battle in a war that has been waged since 1980!  Read on...

This battle is a battle of wills between those who want to score a large win for the plutocracy that has gutted and continues to destroy the middle class while blowing out wealth inequality, and those who want to keep our country a bastion of opportunity that the world can trust and provide credit toward.

It is part of an ECONOMIC CIVIL WAR that has been waged since Reagan won the election in 1980.  Since then, organized labor has dropped from a third of the labor force to single digits.  The number of billionaires and their ability to fund Washington DC policy-making and politicians who carry it out to further their gains has exploded.

It is, quite simply, a generational struggle between greed and fairness.  Between elite takers of the capitalist system, and the horde of masses who have trouble earning a living wage.  In this 30+ year struggle between capital and labor, between the capitalists and workers, capital has won and is continuing to win.

Now, the capitalists, sitting on huge unrealized gains from a stock market that has hit new highs since the financial crisis, want to go in for the kill.  They may be willing to evicerate the full faith and credit of the USA in order to consolidate their power and concentrate wealth in this country even further.  BTW, congrats to Robert Reich for getting his documentary out during this critical time.

The government shutdown and debt ceiling brinksmanship is simply theater and a battle in the continuance of the class war that we, the people, have been losing.   Stand strong against the traitors and those commiting treason to line their own greedy goddamn pockets.  I've had enough of greedy Republicans and their tricks to hurt the middle class and expand their own power.  It's time to stand strong against their EVIL.

THEY, the GOP, are the enemy of the state in this ECONOMIC CIVIL WAR!

Is this diary over the top and is it too strong to call this a "Civil War"?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
