Let me start off by saying that I am not good at figuring things out when it comes to financial issues, legal matters, and the complexities of health insurance. It's a personal failing, I'll admit, but fortunately I know that this site is chock-full of knowledgeable and helpful people. Can one of you help me get the facts for my Fox-viewing mom? I'll explain below the thingy.
I just got off the phone with my mother. She isn't very good at understanding these things either, so I tried my best to get the facts from her, but they're a bit vague. She lives in Nashville, TN, in an area called Bellevue. She and my father have enjoyed free memberships, as Seniors, at the local YMCA for years. She claims that, because of "this Obama thing", they won't enjoy this freebie anymore. I asked her some questions about it and this is what I gathered.
The free YMCA membership for Seniors has been provided by Healthspring. I asked her about Medicare. I believe that they are enrolled in Medicare Advantage, which provides insurance for them through Healthspring and they give them the YMCA membership.
She also said that their medicare co-pays are going to go up.
I wish I were more adept at getting the dirt on things like this, but I'm not. Can anyone out there help me with this. If she's been given bad information, is being scammed in any way, or is a victim of Tennessee's poor implementation of ACA, I really want to straighten it out. Come, all ye ACA defenders and lay some wisdom on me!
Thanks!
