Welcome to Thursday Coffee Hour. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and sit a spell and let us know what is new with you. I have mentioned before my great love for science fiction and fantasy. I have had people look at me strange because it is still one of my preferred things to read. I am anxiously waiting for the next installment of the Hobbit. I will also be getting the extended version of the first film the day it is released.
I have always loved the sense of freedom that science fiction and fantasy gives. You aren't locked into one planet or one race. You can use magic or science. You have good aliens and bad aliens. I think discovering science fiction at the age of eight was what helped me to be a better person. It has taught me not to be limited in my dreams. It has taught me to think outside of the box. It fueled my love for astronomy. I am looking forward to Neil deGrasse Tyson’s new version of Cosmos next year. I am hoping that he will be able to inspire the young, along with science fiction and fantasy, to dream big.
Atlantis
One of the most famous legends is the lost city of Atlantis.
Dragon Attack
In the West dragons are seen as evil but in the East they are good and guardians.
Fairies
While fairies are generally thought of as good they have been portrayed as evil.
Fire Kirin
The Chinese unicorn is called a Kirin and is said to be so gentle that the grass never breaks beneath its hooves when it walks.
Gaia
Gaia is the Earth Goddess.
Out of the Flames
Anubis is one of the Egyptian gods.
Powerful
Many adults who don't understand fantasy think that magic is evil. Those of us who have read and understand it know that it is the intent that determines good and evil.
Tracking the Enemy
I love science fiction.
