Some say the war has already started , but I feel like we are still witnessing guerilla actions. The real fun is when either the establishment or Tea Party decides to split for good from the GOP.
Anyway, quoth McTurtle,
“A government shutdown is off the table,” he says, looking ahead to a possible impasse early next year. “We’re not going to do it.”
Contrast that to
Rep. John Fleming,
“I’ll vote against it,” said Representative John C. Fleming, Republican of Louisiana, referring to the Senate plan. “But that will get us into Round 2. See, we’re going to start this all over again.”
It's like an irresistible force meeting an immovable object only, you know, with idiots.
As loathsome as McConnell and Boehner are, their hatred of Obama is slightly less than the consequences of defaulting the debt (and facing the Tea Party's wrath.) The Tea Party, on the other hand, is the living embodiment of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. The GOP might have gotten some concessions last night if the wingnuts hadn't voted against their bill for not being conservative enough.
The we-don't-hate-Obama-quite-enough-to-shutdown-the-government crowd will not able to coexist with the DEATH TO LIBRULS! crowd for too much longer. It'd be more fun to watch if we weren't already affected by collateral damage.
