Lt. Governor John Walsh's (D. MT) U.S. Senate campaign is wasting no time tying his potential rival, Rep. Steve Daines (R. MT-AL), to government shutdown perpetuator Senator Ted Cruz (R. TX):
My name is Michelle Mayorga, and I just joined John's campaign as his campaign manager. And boy, what a time to be joining the team.
The government shutdown took our nation to the brink of economic disaster because too many lawmakers -- including Montana's only member of the U.S. House, Steve Daines -- didn't have the courage, responsibility, and sense of selfless service it takes to lead this nation.
Montana needs leaders with the courage to put Montanans first, who put service to state and country ahead of themselves and political parties. That's why John's running for the Senate, and why he needs your support to make sure we send a voice for Montanans -- not the tea party -- to the Senate next fall.
Will you contribute $5 to John's campaign today and help elect someone who will work to solve problems, not shut down the government?

While the federal shutdown is over, its effects -- national parks closed for 16 days; uncertainty for veterans, farmers, and ranchers; $24 billion sucked out of the American economy; likely irreparable damage to our reputation around the world -- will be felt for a long time.
What's worse is that it never had to happen. The bipartisan Senate had passed a clean budget resolution to keep the government open and functioning. But a small minority of radical conservatives like Ted Cruz and the tea party -- supported by Representative Daines -- chose instead to hold the economy hostage.
Ted Cruz doesn't need more allies, especially in the Senate. What Montana and this country need are more smart, practical leaders like John who can work together to confront our challenges -- not shut down the government and harm millions of people in the process.
Will you contribute $5 to John's campaign today?

Thank you so much for supporting John. I’m excited for the chance to work with you, John, and the rest of our campaign team to elect someone who truly embodies Montana leadership to the U.S. Senate.
Sincerely,
Michelle Mayorga

Glad to see Walsh is already hammering Daines on this. Now Daines ended up voting to end the shutdown but he's still Hell bent on repealing the Affordable Care Act:
http://billingsgazette.com/...
Daines, the delegation’s only Republican, had supported the GOP House majority’s earlier efforts to force “defunding” of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, before it would agree to a budget bill to keep government running.
Yet on Wednesday evening, he was one of 87 Republicans who joined all 198 Democrats in the House to support the deal that funds the government until Jan. 15 and raises the federal debt ceiling.
In a statement Wednesday night, Daines praised the deal for ending the shutdown but called it a “another Band-Aid” and a “missed opportunity to address our nation’s debt crisis and engage in a much-needed conversation about long-term reforms and real solutions that deal with our spending.”
He also said his future goals are still to repeal Obamacare, oppose any tax increases and curb federal spending. - Billings Gazette, 10/17/13
And what makes Daines an idiot is he could've been the hero here and helped end the shutdown earlier:
http://www.dailykos.com/...
The Government Shutdown Prevention Act never received a hearing, but Democrats are now circulating a petition to bring it to the House floor, a move that would require all 200 Democratic signatures plus signatures from 18 Republicans. So far, Republican House Speaker John Boehner has refused to take up government funding legislation that skips the Obamacare caveat. Boehner could not stop the petitioned bill.
Daines wants no part of the Democrats’ petition.
“The short answer to that is, like many things, it’s a political gimmick,” said Alee Lockman, Daines' spokeswoman.
The Government Shutdown Prevention Act was an attempt to avoid government shutdowns, which Daines supports, Lockman said. But being forced to the House floor by the minority party, the bill doesn’t stand a chance. The bill’s primary sponsor, Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla., also opposes the Democrats’ petition. - Billings Gazette, 10/8/13
Now Walsh isn't the only Lt. Governor named John bashing Daines for the shutdown. Former Lt. Governor John Bohlinger (D. MT), who is also considering a Senate bid, had this to say:
http://www.greatfallstribune.com/...
Montana’s Congressman Steve Daines represents the most populous congressional district with diverse political thought, with about one-third of them calling themselves Democrats, one-third think of themselves as Republicans and one-third think of themselves as Independents.
It was inappropriate for Congressman Daines to help lead the tea party and their effort to shut down our government or hold our citizens hostage by opposing the raising of the debt ceiling. If the debt ceiling had not been raised, it would have brought about a financial collapse felt around the world.
We need people in Congress who can reach across the aisle and find common ground during these troubling times. - Great Falls Tribune, 10/18/13
Not sure if and when Bohlinger might make his announcement but Democrats are pretty happy they landed Walsh as a candidate. You can read more about Walsh here:
