Monday! OK, this was really bizarre. Most of the diary was missing. I could see it in the edits, but it didn't publish! I had to remove the link. Weirdorama. Here is the rest of the diary. Ugh. Bad Monday.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I have never liked my real first name. It's boring and so old-fashioned that I have only met four women around my age with the same name. Ever. I was named after my paternal grandmother. She stormed into my mother's hospital room and announced that if I wasn't named after her, my father was "off the list." So I have my grandmother's first, middle, and last names. Also a monogrammed T. Anthony train case of hers, but I digress.
When I was little, I yearned to have a wonderful, interesting, exotic name, like Ghislaine, Alix, Christiane, Elodie, Margaux, or Chloe. Chloe Languish was the Head Girl in one of my favorite books, and had blonde hair and long, curly eyelashes. She was the epitome of the sweet English rose. I vowed that if I had a daughter, she would never have a boring name. Her name would be something like...Elodie Chloe Ghislaine Margaux =) It was too difficult to choose just two!
In the meantime, I named a cat Nebuchadnezzar :) He was pure black with unusual cinnamon eyes. He was the only cat I was ever able to name, because he was the only one that wasn't a pre-named rescue. He was born to the maintenance man's daughter's cat when I worked at a rehab hospital. When we got our dog, we all called him by different names, until we finally decided to keep the name the breeder had given him. Poor woozle must have been so confused.
When I finally had a daughter, I realized sadly that a wonderful, exotic name would not work with our surname :( I named her after a tree and a French author =) The name that my mother had chosen for me--a French name, ironically!--didn't work as a first name either. Or as a middle name with the first name that I chose.
If you could have chosen your own first name at birth, what would it be? Do you think names shape a person? Would a "Lester" be more likely to wear glasses than a "Ronan"?
