Received this e-mail today from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee regarding Senator Mark Warner (D. VA) and Social Security:
UNITED STATES - JULY 24: Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., makes a statement during Joint Economic Committee hearing in Dirksen Building on fixing the nation's deteriorating infrastructure. (Photo By Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call)
Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation, Sen. Mark Warner said: "We all know at the end of the day...Democrats are going to have to give on entitlement reform."

This is coming from one of the Democrats picked to negotiate with Paul Ryan and hash out a budget.

We need to pressure Sen. Warner on his home turf to stop pushing for a Grand Bargain that cuts Social Security.

Can you chip in $3 to help us mobilize deeply in Sen. Warner's home state of Virginia these next few months?

https://secure.actblue.com/...

Sen. Warner has a bad habit of pre-emptive caving on Social Security. Days before the shutdown, Warner told CNBC, "Democrats are gonna have to give on entitlements."

This broken record needs to find a new tune --- one expands benefits for seniors and veterans, not cuts them.

Starting next week, we want to organize Warner's Virginia constituents, generate local media pressure, and flood his office with phone calls.

Please donate $3 to help us ensure that Sen. Warner hears loudly from his constituents.

Some groups won't name names of Democrats who need pressure. We just did because, with Social Security at stake, progressives need to pressure the right people.

Thanks for being a bold progressive.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  I don't trust this guy at all... (7+ / 0-)

I think he's desperate to make a big "bi-partisan" deal to put on his senate resume with the idea that it would benefit him for a national run ie as the VP on a Dem ticket.  He's completely drank the "Fix-The-Debt" koolaid, and thinks he'll get huge beltway props as a "serious lawmaker in an unserious congress".

GOP will attempt to frame Hillary as a hyper-partisan looking to re-fight yesterdays battles.  Warner figures if he has this big entitlement/spending deal notch on his belt where he works hand in hand with conservative Repubs that he'd be the ideal choice to be Hillary's running mate.

Mark Warner is a true believer on Social Security cuts.  He would vote for them even without any sequester relief or tax increases.

    •  He is a true believer, but (0+ / 0-)

Enough political pressure can make him vote the right way.

Would you prefer ignoring the problem?

      •  More than that, he doesn't give a shit what (0+ / 0-)

his "little people" constituents think. He probably cares what the rich ones think, but not the rest.

I base this on my personal experience of mobilizing people to lobby his office, soon after he got to the Senate.

Like I said, get ready to mobilize a primary effort. Calls, letters, petitions, and office visits, while I wouldn't say don't do them, will not be enough.

  •  Get ready to field a primary opponent (0+ / 0-)

and if you don't have the moxy to do that, Warner's not going to give a shit what you say.

I think you'd have had more of a chance with John Warner, who appeared to care a bit more what his constituents thought.
