There’s probably nothing worse that could be done to the legacy of Congressman C.W. “Bill” Young than me prematurely declaring him dead, but the National Republican Congressional Committee may have second place all locked up.
On the eve of the iconic lawmaker’s funeral — and literally during the public viewing of his body — the NRCC polled Young’s Congressional District 13 asking who is the best successor to him in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Pollster Matt Florell of St. Pete Polls says that he received a robo-call on Wednesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. asking some twenty questions about the impending race for CD 13.
According to Florell’s Facebook page, the poll “asked about favorability of several potential Republican CD-13 candidates, and how each of them would fare in an election against Alex Sink. That list included Rick Baker, Frank Hibbard, Karen Seel and Bill Young, Jr. They also asked about Obamacare and specific problems with it.”
A spokesperson for NRCC denied that the GOP was making the calls. A spokesperson for NRCC at first denied that the poll was in the field but has now acknowledged that “a few unscheduled calls were inadvertently made in this district.”
Spokesperson Katie Prill explained that the NRCC had “several polls across the country in the field this evening.” Prill said the NRCC “truly apologize for this unfortunate mistake.”
