75 percent of Americans now say Republicans don’t deserve re-election, and 50 percent of Americans would vote Democratic if elections were held today according to
a recent CNN poll.
Now, it is a year before Congressional elections are held and three years before the Presidential election is held. These numbers are not likely to hold up.
But we progressives and trade unionists can remind Americans that radical right-wing Republicans have not only threatened the full faith and credit of the United States and shutdown the government, but have actively worked to undermine America and democracy.
We realize that many or most of Corporate America are fed up by tea party Republicans. And we know the amalgam of rag tag right-wing legacies of the anti-democratic formations like the Liberty Lobby and the John Birch Society today called the tea party are simply a pathetic front for those who would be plutocrats-oligarchs like the Koch boys, Jim DeMint’s Heritage Foundation, and Grover Norquist and Club for Growth.
So, as I said yesterday there is a major split in the Republican Party.
It is our responsibility as progressives to exploit that split and the current disaffection with radical right-wing Republicans.
I believe there are at least three very large elements for us to use to further the right-wing chasm:
1) Economics: We must pound the message that right-wing Republicans serve only the interests of the plutocracy.
2) Values: Our values are fundamental human values that can lift all our people. The real values of the radical right are anti-democratic.
3) A More Perfect Union: We are working for a more perfect union — more freedom, more justice, a better chance for all. We’re fighting for real access to the middle class and a more secure middle class.
